Yesterday was the always lovely Student Loan day, so I took it upon myself to get down to Size? and see what I could get my hands on, and they definitely provided me with exactly what I wanted. The brand new Asics Gel Saga in a black/mint colour-way.
As with the Saucony's reviewed previously, these kicks are also slightly big for me. Don't get me wrong, the UK7 does fit, but I do find them occasionally slipping off my heel slightly. I can't really argue with the sizing on this one however, it's only a slight problem. So I'd have to agree that the kick generally does run true to size.
Comfort - 8/10
I think the comfort of the Saucony Grid 9000 is perverting my idea of comfort these days. But these Asics just don't seem to be up there with the standards of comfort given in the Saucony. Yes, they are still really comfortable, but just not 10/10. The heel does slightly rub and dig in a little, this would be the only major problem however, so it's only losing out on 2 points here.
Styling - 10/10
I do absolutely love the Gel Sage silhouette, everything is complimentary, they have thought out this kick absolutely down to the finest details. The linkage between the suede and shiny nylon is out of this world, it's not an easy transition to make, and Asics have done this beautifully. The sole is also a rather chunky sole which makes for an even better viewing experience, with different grooves and juts which make it more than just a mid-sole. Outstanding.
Colour-Way 10/10
I have had a problem recently with getting to grips with some of the more 'out there' colour-ways of the Gel Saga, it doesn't seem to be one for the faint hearted. But they have toned it down a bit with this release. Yes the mint to the laces, lining and accents is pretty bright, but teamed with the black/white it fits in perfectly and doesn't shout like other Gel Saga colour-ways. My favourite colour-way to date.
Final Verdict
This is a very very very good shoe, and one which I'm so happy I got my hands on, pride of place at the top of my shoe rack. Theres no much to say here other than the score:
Have a gander at some more pictures of the kick, once again sorry for the mucky sole, I really can't help myself.
