Kicks: Burn Rubber x New Balance 577 - "Joe Louis"

To start, people in the UK tend to be pretty set in their ways with the whole New Balance UK vs. USA, and tend to always go for the UK made and I myself would also always prefer a UK made New Balance, but this might just be an exception. Burn Rubber have brought the spark back to the 577.

For those who are into boxing (including the heritage of the sport) will most definitely take a shining to this shoe, as will non-boxing fans. Both will see how the Black, Brown and White tie in with the boxing theme (that being the throwback brown leather gloves alongside black shorts) of this beautiful edition of the 577.

I feel Burn Rubber have done a wonderful job with this NB model, as they have really striped it back to create a lovely simplistic look. The simple all leather construction is matched beautifully with an equally simplistic colour-way. The majority of the shoe is covered in Black with just the heel area of the shoe and the 'N' branding being coloured in Brown. This simple upper is complimented with a White midsole and a Gum outsole. The colour scheme to the shoe is also very closely linked to violin casing that the great Joe Louis used to hide his gloves from his mother (he had sold the violin to be able to buy gloves and boxing lessons).

This shoe is a very well put together salute not only to Joe Louis but all the boxers of yesteryear. As we all know many world class champion boxers have come out of Michigan such as Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray and most recently Floyd Mayweather, so it's only fitting Burn Rubber have created a shoe to celebrate their states achievements within boxing.

Overall this is a great winter shoe, which could be seeing it gain NB of the year in the Men's Needs' Best Kicks of 2013. So get yourself over to Burn Rubber on 16 November to get your hands on a pair, be quick though as I think this shoe should be well sought after,
