So, congratulations, you’ve almost made it through the cold winter season, those thick coats and woolly sweaters have quite frankly, become a bit of a bore. It’s now time to start thinking about your spring attire.
I’ve very kindly taken it upon myself to scan the pages of Vogue and stalk fashion weeks across the globe to bring you the very best 'must have trends' for the coming seasons, and I think you’re gonna like ‘em!
1. We can all GO BRIGHT!
Colour is everywhere, from striking pink shirts, to the preppy
pink and blue striped ties. Pink being the main shade I was picking up on, but
everything from citrus orange jackets to cobalt blue shirts were seen. A great way to inject some colour into your spring/summer wardrobe would be to invest in some brightly coloured jeans or chinos, and boy can you take your pick. We’ve seen everything from brilliantly energetic green (wear with a crisp white shirt or tee and a stone/beige blazer) to flamboyant yellows which look great put together with a navy shirt.
Kept clean and simple,
you will crack the colour block trend too! Have a look at the 3 ideas below from Jonathan Saunders at the recent London Collections Mens fashion event.
2. Prints!
Once again, prints are back. This season however, designers
have gone head to toe and brilliantly OTT, although somewhat mixed it up a bit
by pairing paisley like prints (anything goes really: squares, spots, swishes
of any sort) with bold stripes.
If you want to clash your patterns, try easing
yourself in gently with something like a small scaled printed shirt with a
striped tie, or a patterned suit jacket or blazer and stripy pocket handkerchief
would look great. Check the leading image to see Burberry's take on print clashing, making use of their signature check alongside an almost tribal style pattern.
3. Shining High
I’m talking full on smooth, very shiny, vinyl macs, shoes and even trousers. Colours were generally kept to very wearable blacks, greys, maroons, beiges…you get the picture. You could work a high shine vinyl belt into your wardrobe quite easily, I’m sure you’re about to see them gracing the high street very soon. Some brogue style shoes would look great with some softer chino-esque trousers, why not check out these lovely Trickers for Triads - Toe Cap Derby Brogues (see below).
One thing I would say is, please do not ruin your lovely new high shine black shoes by breaking the golden rule and teaming them with a pair of blue denim jeans! In any shade! Ever! It’s just a no I’m afraid.
4. Sportswear
I’m not talking your usual Adidas tracksuits and old Nike hoodie here. It’s all about keeping it smart and urban in high-tech materials and luxe fabrics.
Lined mesh shorts and long sleeved t-shirts layered up with short sleeved shirts. An easy way to work this trend would be a stylish hooded waterproof or lightweight parker jacket. Look out for those tech fabrics, clean cuts and details such as zip sleeve pockets, buckled cuffs or togs. Oh, and don't forget to team it with your favourite kicks.
Ronnie Fieg and his team over at KITH NYC, know exactly what they're talking about when it comes to the sportswear trend, so don't forget to check out his select pieces of apparel.
So there you go, enter into SS14 with the knowledge of exactly what to wear and what to team it with, courtesy of this brilliant piece wrote by Tariq Mohammed.
