As most of us already know 6ACRE III, is well underway planning wise, from everything from food to sellers. And if you've been to 6ACRE previously, you already know what your in for, for those that haven't the following Q&A may give you a bit of an insight to what you can expect from Tom and Dean.
I recently put a few questions to the 6ACRE Team, hoping to shed some light upon the event for those who don't know too much about it. Check out what went on below.
MN: We all know why 6ACRE has been a success for us sneaker enthusiasts up North. But what I'd like to know is, where does your initial interest in sneakers come from?
6ACRE: My interest in sneakers comes from my uncle – he has an enviable collection of Adidas, and he surrounded me with trainers from an early age, his motto was always that no matter what you wear, your footwear makes your outfit.
MN: Are you happy with the crowds 6ACRE has been attracting? Both numbers wise, and people in general.
6ACRE: The reaction we've had to 6ACRE and the crowds we have been pulling in are excellent. I think we have a really nice mix of all ages, from up and coming teenage “sneaker-heads” to some of the legends of the UK game. It’s always nice to catch up with friends from across that country that I have met through a mutual love for sneakers, and 6ACRE gives me that chance.
MN: Do you feel events such as your own, Crepe City and Sneaks and Peaks are helping the attenders in the hunt for their grails?
6ACRE: 100% - Speaking from experience, living in Manchester where there is no Footpatrol, No Hanon, No End Clothing etc it’s sometimes hard to land releases without travelling for miles up on miles. These events give you the chance to cop your grails in one place. Plus what some of the collectors have on show is amazing!! I mean where else could you cop Kid Robots, Patta Denins, Tiff Dunks & ASICS ECPs in the same place on the same day??
MN: How do you feel about re-sellers?
6ACRE: Re-sellers – This could go either way, if they are doing it right, and aren’t in it to make a quick buck I don’t mind it, for example some people that sell some really classic trainers (Atmos 1Bs, Pattas, NB collabs etc) for way less than there perceived “resell value” I think are doing the community the world of good – People that buy and sell to fund their collection I don’t mind so much, people that buy and flip for 3 x the price on eBay within the hour, I really dislike. At the end of the day, if people only bought trainers to wear, the community would be a much cleaner place, and if resellers didn't exist, prices for sought after kicks wouldn’t be extortionate, but, honestly I don’t mind paying a premium for a trainer that I want to wear that I missed out on if that premium is reasonable.
MN: With the recent hype behind most releases, do you find yourselves cutting back from buying the new and over hyped releases due to the amount of ''sneaker-heads'' that have come out the wood work in the past 12-18 Months?
6ACRE: It’s certainly not the sneaker-head hype that’s putting me off new releases, it’s more the quality. If I like a shoe and the quality is right I’ll buy it, hype or no hype. I’m a New Balance man at heart, so quality is rarely an issue for me, and neither is hype, I hope Nike can get back on track and start producing stuff similar to the pre '05 goodness soon though, fingers crossed!
MN: We know brands such as Walsh and New Balance are still producing quality products from UK factories. I feel this is important as it keeps the quality of the products tip top regarding attention to detail. Does this affect you in buying from brands like Nike and or Adidas?
6ACRE: This kind of relates to my above answer, with Nike this certainly affects my decisions, the shape of the recent AM1s is so disappointing, and the glue stains on 90% of Nikes doesn't help either. I think Adidas are doing really good things and I've never had any problems with the quality of my Adidas, but I have to say nothing compares to New Balance, and I have to agree it is the fact they are made in the UK & US that keeps the quality on point.
MN: No disrespect to Adidas in the last question. Adidas look set up to be having a great 2014, do you feel this is important for collectors to see some three striped favourites back in circulation?
6ACRE: I think what Adidas are doing is great, some of their recent re-releases, and especially the EQT kicks are amazing!! I’m also a massive fan of the Flux, it’s a great looking trainer. I think this year and next will be huge for Adidas and I think the community as a whole is really looking forward to seeing what’s to come.
MN: Now to the big question, do you have any exclusives for the Mens Needs followings?
6ACRE: Now I can’t disclose too much information, but I can give you an exclusive that SoleHeaven will be returning and running their Shortlisted competition again at 6ACRE 3 with £100 gift card up for grabs. I can also say that our 1st Birthday is at the end of July so watch this space for some BIG news!!
MN: To finish off, tell us where and when will the event be taking place? Also how can people get tickets for the event?
6ACRE: 6ACRE 3 will be held on 26.04.2014 at Old Granada Studios in Manchester City Centre (M60 9EA) from 11am – 5pm. We have more space, more traders, more music, more art, more booze and more food, so it’s not to be missed!! A very limited number of VIP tickets go on sale this Sunday at 6pm via our Instagram (@6ACREKicks) for £5 and plenty of tickets will be available on the door on the day at £3.
6ACRE: Finally I’d like to say a huge thanks to Mens Needs & Mens Restorations for the support since day 1, its guy's like you lot that have helped build this event into what it is today!!
